Kate is a lucky girl. Her birthday this year lasted for 10 days.
I suppose it made up for last year, where her birthday celebrations were almost non-existent. We canceled her planned sleepover because of her amazingly unacceptable behaviour when we were out of town and my friend was looking after her. So this year, she made sure she was in top condition for her extended celebrations: "because last year I didn't have a sleepover because I was so naughty, and this year, I really really want to have my sleepover!" She even stayed home from school the Friday before the sleepover, to make sure she got over her cough and cold that she had mid-week.
As this birthday celebration was longer than a traditional Indian wedding (although did not have a white horse involved), this will be a long post, with lots of photos. I will start from the beginning....
Joint Birthday Dance Party with one of her best friends:
| The Three Musketeers |
| Practicing the Finale |
| The Real Finale | | | |
| The Spread |
| The Little Old Married Couple |
| | | | | |
| The Birthday Girls! |
| The Smart Little Brother |
....so a grand time was had by all, at the dance-y birthday party. Boys and girls alike joined in (the boys were hilariously trying to breakdance!)
And then.
We had the sleepover.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, although there were points in the evening where I was thinking it could easily go downhill. But I stopped everyone at one point, and pointed out that it was THE FIRST SLEEPOVER PARTY FOR YEAR 2's....and that everyone else would be looking to them to set an example, so that other parents will allow more sleepovers....and that seemed to help a bit. Other than that, it was all singing, all dancing for me, trying to entertain six 6-7-year-olds all night, and then in the morning, without our home blowing up.
| Managed to finish icing it just before the first guest arrived! |
The welcome activity (also so Charlie and Rebecca could join in before heading to Rebecca's for their own little married couple sleepover)....decorating pillowcases....
Some samples of the artwork....
...a hotbed of activity!
| Pizza!! |
| A row of shoes... |
| Cake time |
| Movie time... |
| Sleep time.... |
| James, relegated to watching tv in the playroom.....poor Daddy! |
And then they woke up at about a quarter to 6.....not too bad, it was about 7 hours of sleep. And we had PANCAKES. With a choice of whipped cream, strawberries, chocolate sauce, nutella, syrup or honey as toppings.....here are their creations...
| Strawberries and cream and syrup! |
| Syrup! |
| More syrup! |
| Nutella! |
| Lots of sugar! I mean, syrup and honey! |
| Strawberries and cream! |
| Round 2: MORE SUGAR! I mean, syrup and honey and whipped cream and chocolate sauce! (strangely, Lucas said he had a bit of a tummy ache after eating this and then jumping around like a looney toons (couldn't have been the sugar!)) |
| Very patient Kush, having a manicure from one of the birthday presents.... |
And after all the kids left, we moved on to.....OPENING PRESENTS!!!
| The beginning... |
| Sitting amidst the carnage, with her final present that she had been wanting for AGES. |
And then we had to try out the RIPSTICK!!!!!
....and then there were the cupcakes for the class celebration on the Monday....
....and now I'm knackered.....!
