Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year has been and gone again.  Tomorrow is Valentine's Day (and do I have a card yet?  like heck I do).

It was unexpected but we stayed in town....well, not entirely so - due to us being highly disorganised at the best of times, it shouldn't have been such a surprise that we didn't book anything for the holiday week.  In any case, it was a lovely week.  The weather was wonderful and warm, and we relaxed and had a great time.  Charlie had football camp ("I only play football though, we don't really camp") and we did a bunch of family things.

One thing we did was go for a 10K hike with some other families.  After our experience with the kids on The Peak (after 200 meters, Kate started whinging,"My feet hurt...!  When will we get there...!" for the remaining 2800 meters), we almost didn't go.  But Kate insisted she wanted to go for a long hike.  And what a great little trooper she was.  After about 8K she started flagging a bit, but after a few people commented on how great she was doing, hiking the whole way on her own, what a big girl she was, she managed to make it til the end.  Now that I know they can do it, there will be no stopping us!

We're off!
The dead frog Charlie found...
Kate's in the lead....
Resting and contemplating.....
Posing for the photo at the end...
Kate has a new friend too....
(and yes, that is her, giving herself bunny ears!)
Kids at the finish
And Charlie had to take a photo of the finish too!
