I'm Funny, Too!

I keep writing about my funny kids...I, too, can do funny things. This one was not intentional, but I end up in tears every time I tell someone about it.

The other day I was walking to the supermarket, and saw a film crew on the opposite side of the road. I've seen film crews a few times, as a lot of Canto-films are filmed throughout HK (being home of the Canto-film and all). So, no big deal.

As I kept walking, however, I noticed quite a few policemen standing outside the building I was passing. A woman walking just behind me noticed, too, and we both stopped to peer into the building. I said to her,"Wow, there must be someone really famous in there!" and she nodded back at me. We approached one of the policemen and she asked,"Is there someone really famous in this film?" I added,"Like Jackie Chan?!?! I love Jackie Chan!!"

Suddenly, another man came running up to us. "HEY!! You two!! Get out of our movie!!"

Those weren't policemen at all. They were extras in the film, and the other lady and I were standing right in the middle of what the people on the opposite side of the street were filming.

NSFW!

He's been at it again. Being funny. And other things. The other day, James thought he'd do a little exercise....and Charlie decided to help him make the most of his workout... And he's still organising his cars... But the one that takes the cake is coming up. Remember when he did this? Well, he's been into the paint pens again. Only this time the entire household fell about laughing. I honestly can't stop laughing when I look at this photo; I end up in tears every time I take a peek.In case the picture is too small, I've zoomed in for a clearer look. Note how proud he is of himself:Everyone has told me to save this picture for his wedding. Wedding, schmedding. It's coming out as soon as a girl even looks in his direction!

The Alternate Identities Continue

So Charlie saw my mother and me eating some cherries, and of course, wanted some too. I told him he couldn't put them into his mouth whole, like we did, because he could choke - he had to bite them. So he very carefully bit into one, and looooved it. "More! More!" And he ate about 10, like tiny little apples. And then he looked like a vampire.Kate then got off the bus that day, and our helper didn't even recognise her at first. She looked so beautiful! Here's a random photo of them relaxing before bed...

Cultural Revelation

A few days ago we went to Kate's friend Drisana's birthday party. She wanted an Indian Princess party! So the Disney princesses decorated the flat, and then we all dressed up in Indian dresses and ate Indian food.

Initially, Kate threw a massive paddy because she didn't want to wear the Indian dress that Dris' mother sent over - she wanted to wear her sparkly party dress. Oh, the screaming and crying there was. I, being the hard-hearted mother that I am, told her that we were either going in the dresses or not at all. So I got into my dress. Kate came hiccupping out of her room to see....and realised it was a very beautiful dress. "Is mine like that one?" "Yes, Kate, it is, but it is yellow, not pink and purple like mine" (I could see where this was going)"Why not?!?! Now I'm even more upset!" Cry, cry, scream, scream. "OK, Kate, I'm ready now, I'll see you later!" "Waiiiiiiiitttttt!!!" and she got (grudgingly) into her dress. When we got to Dris' place, we had a very grumpy girl. But, as she realised all the other little girls were in their Indian dresses (as were the mummies), she perked up, and then noticed how beautiful they all were. And then she loved them. And now she wants one of her own, just like the one she had ("But don't you want a pink one for yourself?" "Oh, yes, I want pink then" OK). And then she really got into the Indian dancing...here are Dris and Kate dancing...our future Bollywood stars!

They also had henna painting at the party. We all got our hands done. I was really impressed at how long the children were willing to keep still while their hands were drying (you have to keep it still for 30 minutes!). Even Charlie sat there very seriously, waiting. And waiting. And waiting. Until he finally said,"Mummy, I want to walk around now!!" And then he had to wait in line to get it removed. Here's Charlie's hands:
Here's all of ours:And Charlie with his party gift bangles. He wanted to wear them to school the next day, but we told him "he might lose them"....

We're Not 'Llowed!

I'm sure I've posted Charlie with a Cocoa Pop face before, but if not, here's one:However this morning, he managed to get it in both ears, down his neck, all over his arms and on his legs. You can see the ear smear here:For lunch, my mother took us out to eat at this lovely Thai restaurant on Kowloon side. We enjoyed our lunch, then Charlie asked if he could have some ice cream. Sure, I said, and ordered a plain vanilla ice cream, no sauce, etc, from the waiter. This is what we got:The stuff on top was candy floss. At first, I told the guy to take it off, but then I thought, Charlie has never had candy floss, I'm sure he'll like it, as all kids love it! So I ripped some off and handed it to him. He recoiled in horror, and squealed,"Mummy, we not 'llowed to eat hair!" I almost fell out of my seat. Here's a close up:It was really yummy and I ate it all (it was caramelised, so, so yummy!), the whole while Charlie was giving a running commentary about how mummy was eating all the hair off his ice cream.

Quote Of The Week

From my daughter the hippie:Kate has been carrying around her ukelele ("guitar"!) everywhere we go, like those guys that play music in cheesy honeymoon restaurants. And she told me on Sunday:"See, I know proper songs, it's just that I'm not very good at them!" Aah, the pearls of wisdom that drop from their mouths....

What I Did In School This Summer

It's great that the "Summer Activities Programme" has gone ahead, despite all the swine flu panicking. I keep hearing about how loads of people back in the UK are hoping their kids will get it this time around, so that when this 'second, deadly wave' hits, they will be immune. Here, we take the kids' temperatures about 20 times a day, every time they need to go anywhere....before we send them off to school, then when they get to school, anytime they go to any play areas, when we go to the indoor pool, when we go to the outdoor pool....what is interesting is how much kids' temperature fluctuates throughout the day, indeed on a five-minute-ly basis!

So anyhoo, they are doing the "Summer Activities Programme" ('SAP' for short from now on, my fingers get swine flu just typing it out so much), and enjoying it to the hilt. I have to say, I'd love to do it too. The first week was Pirate Week, last week was Dr. Seuss (so Kate got to bring in all the books that were her favourites when she was smaller, like "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish"), and this week is the Circus. Plus, every afternoon the bigger kids get to play in the paddling pool. Kate summed up how fun it was,"Mummy, this summer at school, we aren't doing any WORK! We just get to PLAY all day!"

Daddy's new tie that Kate made last week
Face painting this week. Charlie is a tiger and Kate is a butterfly. My mom thought the butterfly was really ugly. I can't say I blame her. I didn't think it was supposed to really make her look like a goth insect! I suppose they aren't professional face painters though...

Well, He Told Me!

Now that Charlie is going to summer school in the mornings, he is back to taking his naps. It's strange that when he had school in the afternoons, he was perfectly fine without a nap. But now he is exhausted by the time he comes home. The other day I picked him up from the bus and saw his head nodding inside. And then there is the falling asleep on his lunch trick:
Another funny thing about Charlie now, is his quick wit. To wit: the other day I was nagging him to eat his dinner.

"Charlie, EAT YOUR FOOD!"
.
.
.
"CHARLIE! You have NOTHING in your mouth! EAT YOUR FOOD!"
.
"I got teeth."
